Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When is the Tournament?

March 24-26, 2023

How do I know what Tier I should register my team in?

Tier 1 teams will consist of players that are 2nd year and/or play rep or spring hockey (ie. Pee Wee AA, CAHL Tier 1, etc). Tier 1 teams can also have a mix of 1st and 2nd year players

Tier 2 teams will consist of 1st year players and/or players who are in house level leagues or lower CAHL level teams
The tournament organizers will discuss the appropriate Tier when you register your team.

We rely on teams to accurately report skills levels of all players so that we can tier teams accordingly.

How many games can we expect to play in a day?

Teams are guaranteed 4 games in our tournament. Depending on the number of teams in each division, a team can play 1, 2 or 3 games in a day. We do our best to provide sufficient rest time between games but teams can expect that they will be given at least a 1 hour break between games.

Why do some teams play at certain rinks?

Given that the Family Leisure Centre is Olympic size ice, we try not to schedule our Initiation and Novice divisions there any more than necessary given the size of the ice surface.

When will the schedule be released to teams?

Teams can expect to have the schedule approximately one week prior to the start of the tournament. We typically have approximately 185 games to schedule across 4 ice surfaces and we cannot put the schedule together until all teams are confirmed. Sometimes we lose teams late because of playoffs or provinicials which then takes additional time to reconfigure any parts of the schedule. This is a massive undertaking that on average takes us approximately 30-35 hours to complete. We then have to put it into formats for teams and print. There is double, triple, quadruple checking that occurs to ensure it is accurate when released to teams.

We advise teams to plan to play Friday morning. We always try to schedule out of town teams slightly later but it is dependent on how many local and out of town teams we have in the tournament which varies year to year.
